If you're looking for a Christmas garland to use on a mantel or around a doorframe, the 12- or 14-inch width may be sufficient; but for outdoor use - particularly if the artificial Christmas garland is meant to be viewed from a considerable distance - you may want to consider the 16-inch diameter artificial Christmas garland.
